FEM(ME) IDENTITY MEANS: I LOVE AS HARD AS I FUCK, AND I FUCK AS HARD AS I FIGHT."

If an intense emotion lights all the matches inside of us all at once, the brilliance would make us see a radiant tunnel showing us a path that we forgot at birth. The soul will want to return to its divine origin.

The unison of these two names is enough to launch my emotions off into a frenzy. Yassin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) is one of maybe 5 true-to-form emcees left in the mainstream hip-hop verse; it goes without saying that I am eternally in awe of this man and I won't even get into the level of respect I hold for his craft (we don't have that kind of time). Muhammad Ali.....(sigh)....Muhammad Ali was, is, and will continue to be an inspiration. One of the, if not the first, pioneer(s) of the "nobody made history being quiet" movement that fuels all that I do. I am clearly thoroughly moved by this collaboration of minds, spirits, and energies.
Ok, enough feelings. Here are the facts:
The cats at Louis Vuitton have launched their "Core Values" campaign that features calligrapher/lettersmith Niels Shoe Meulman and emcee/rhymesmith Yasiin Bey. They have designed a rather dope webpage dedicated entirely to the words of the great Ali and we can all agree that Ali was the king of one liners/trash talk.
As of now there are two videos, both directed by Stuart McIntyre, spreading like wildfire throughout the web-verse. Take a few moments to bathe and relish in the epicness of it all.
Yasiin's vocal presence and physical allure x the floetic confidence and undeniable legacy that is Ali....Period.

"I'm gonna take a deep breath
I'm gonna hold my head up
Gonna put my shoulders back
And look you straight in the eye
I'm gonna flirt with somebody
When they walk by
I'm gonna sing out
Sing out!
I believe I have inside of me
Everything that I need to live a bountiful life
With all the love inside of me
I'll stand as tall as the tallest tree
And I'm thankful for each day that I'm given
Both the easy and hard ones I'm living
But most of all
I'm thankful for...
loving who I really am
I'm beautiful
Yes, I'm beautiful
And I'm here"

Esperanza Spalding - I Can't Help It (Michael Jackson cover)
Just when I'm convinced that I couldn't possibly love this queen more...she proves me wrong. Consistently. Dearest Esperanza, BE MINE!!
She's just a gorgeous, soulful, woman in full. Her energy is like a drug and I am always grateful for the high.
This particular video resonates deep within me because it transports me back to my first 'almost' affair. Same dynamic...in a pretty damn perfect relationship with a man, strong mutual attraction building between myself and a woman. Only difference being that the relationship between the male and I ended before I began to heavily indulge in my feelings for the woman. I reiterate the word, "heavy" because under the societial norms of a relationship, I may or may not have broken a few of the rules.
I remember it all...the hand-holding in the park at sunset, staring at photos I took of her for hours on end, embracing her scent on pieces of clothing that I wore whenever we would hug, blowing off the things that I should be doing just for a fleeting lunch rendezvous, etc. etc.
You know that whole 'falling in love' thing. Le Sigh. I can admit that in the beginning, I was nothing more than an innocent starry-eyed sucker for some true to form amour.

I dare you to find a flaw in this video?
Sure, there are some people who believe that life is about compromising, about finding the middle ground between two extremes. I myself, believe this to a certain extent, predominately in regards to work relations.
In regards to love, why should you have to change who you are in order for someone to want to be with you? Why would you want to?
Seems a bit contradictory, doesn't it?!? Seriously, think about it for a minute. If you weren't who you were, would your partner have wanted to be with you in the first place.
I will admit that relationships are essentially nothing more than a push and pull between two entities seeking to build something greater together. What I won't do is concede to the notion that the uniqueness, awesomeness, imperfection, and beauty in each of us is a probationary condition until someone comes along and wants to be a part of your life.
You are who you are before you decide to find a mate...that's the person you should accept and nurture. She's the one who will always be there for you. Should one choose to compromise then let it be a decision that you make for yourself, don't change because another thinks it would be better for your potential relationship.

Fall in love with yourself,

ART TAKES TIMES SQUARE? HELL YES!
5.4.12 at 13:15.
There are very few things in life that get my mojo a'flowing more than running into art on an average day. Partaking in the same A-Z activities day to day can get a bit....well, depressing as all hell. So, on those serendipitous moments when I run into a pop-up shop or a freshly bombed piece of street art while running errands, I rejoice outwardly. I'm the kind of cat who wills stop in the middle of busy street to bask in a creatives' creations, regardless of how late I'm running or how many really pissed off looks I receive.
Creation is not only my claim to fame, it is my center of sanity. So, when the groovy folks at Artists Wanted, debuted their newest collaborative work of greatness, I was titillated beyond belief.
Here's a call to arms going out to photographers, crafters, sculptors, and all other such visual artistics...

And the one that stood out the most was this one...
The reason why:
There was this collage piece I made a rather extended minute ago, I know this because it was hot and all I had on was a pair of boyshorts and a ripped up wifebeater. There I was idly flipping through an 'Urban Outfitters' catalog, sipping some spiked fruit punch, when I came across two photos that were weirdly similar and obviously different at the same time. A mashup was made and after a photo documentation was made, it was put away into the archives. Months and months later, on a random inter-verse humpage. I came across the above set and was transported back. Life is fucking' funny that way.
I'll end this little harang with a snapshot of my collage:
See what I mean....similar yet different.
Until next time,
